The setup

Jake is newly engaged to Sophie and meets her parents at a lakeside holiday. Dinner is warm, her father is delayed, and Sophie's mother Veronica has already heard things about him. After a toast, Sophie heads to bed and Veronica asks her daughter's fiance onto the floor and tells him to breathe. In episode 2 work pulls Sophie out of the house for the day, and Veronica asks Jake for help with a morning stretch routine. She says there is plenty he has never tried, and she invites him to join her in the shower. Then she calls his name from inside.

Why it is worth the time

The pleasure is in the pacing, with a confident mother-in-law who is a good deal more relaxed than anyone else in the house. It is an invitation story with a lot of lake-house atmosphere.

Best night for it

A warm, slow evening when you have time to settle in. Good for a mood that likes anticipation more than speed.
