The setup

Dana needs one week to impress her boss and walk away with a VP title, so she drags her fiance Jake along to the boss's desert estate. His job is to stay out of the way. Marcus Voss meets him by the pool, introduces his wife Vanessa, and then pulls Jake aside for a very direct conversation about what every male guest does around her. In episode 2 the host explains that this is a ritual from past retreats, lays out three rules, and promises that Dana must never find out. Jake gets a sunscreen errand and a reminder that nothing here is accidental.
