The setup

In a medieval-style court, touching the queen carries a death sentence. Episode 1 starts when she assigns the lowest-ranked guard, Kale, to watch her bedchamber, because he alone holds her gaze. She reminds him that the law covers his hands, not hers. Episode 2 ups the pressure: she makes him hold her crown with both hands and tells him the court will choose her husband tomorrow. Tonight, she says, she is not his queen. He keeps saying he should not be there.

Why it is worth the time
