The setup

This castle story opens with a court that smirks while the prince is ordered to bow to his new stepmother, a woman close to his own age. At night she slips into his chamber rather than the king's. Undoing her dress, he notices a mark that exposes her loyalty: she serves the rival house that has fought his father for ten years. In episode 2 he has to decide. He said nothing, an enemy force is near the gates, and she asks him to pick between the king and her. The riders arrive early.

Why it is worth the time

Period costume, political plotting and a forbidden twist all fit in a tight run. The stakes go well beyond desire, so the choice she forces on him actually matters by the end.

Best night for it

A night when you want something a bit more cinematic and fantasy-flavored, and you are happy to commit to the full run.
