The setup

Alma plans an overnight get-together for friends from college, and stepbrother Ethan has been left off the list. While she prepares the snacks and bags he keeps looking, and she calls him out for it. When the first friend arrives, she looks him over and says out loud that nobody warned her he was cute. Alma sets rule one: no boys, unless she picks one. For the moment the door stays closed, but the last line of episode 1 is an invitation to come and join them.

Why it is worth the time

The charm of the opening is the crowd: a stepbrother standing outside a room full of friends, and a stepsister who enjoys the leverage. Only the first episode has subtitles, but the setup is clear and playful.

Best night for it

A fine pick for a Saturday night with a few friends or a casual late evening when you do not want a heavy plot.
