The setup

Episode 1: a lone driver pulls over on a dark road for a woman who is frightened, her phone dead. She says a man gave her a ride and then grew pushy. She refuses to involve the police, saying they can't help, and asks him to stay close until sunrise. He suggests a motel. In episode 2 he books the room, asks for two beds, and insists it isn't what the clerk thinks. She remarks that he smells of the road, cold air and something warm underneath. He mentions his wedding ring. She answers that pledges suit those expecting to run out of time, and she does not.

Why it is worth the time

A moody horror-romance in miniature: a predator with a playful voice and a driver who is bad at hearing warning signs. The mood does the heavy lifting, and the pacing is tight.

Best night for it

A dark, quiet night when you want atmosphere over plot. Lights low, headphones on.
